Your pan is made of aluminum and seasoning it will extend its life and help to keep it looking shiny and new. Also, you should always season it before use as this will protect it from heat and food enzymes that can cause damage, rust and oxidization. This helpful guide will show you how to season your pan effectively to help give it a longer life
Step 1 – Washing Your Pan
Always wash your new aluminum pan before you season it. This will remove any dust and dirt that can cause scratches and discoloration. Use warm water and a little dishwashing liquid together with a soft sponge to clean your pan. After washing, dry it off with a soft cloth. You are now ready to begin seasoning your pan.
Step 2 – Seasoning the Pan with Oil
Pre-heat the oven at 250 degrees. Wipe the inside of the pan all round with vegetable oil.
Put the pan in the oven to heat up. Heat the pan until all the oil is gone. You will probably see the oil heating up and possibly see some steam rising. It will probably take around 20 minutes before all the oil has evaporated. Remove the pan from the oven using an oven glove and leave on a protected surface to cool. Don’t wash the pan until it has completely cooled.
Step 3 – Washing the Pan
The next stage is to give the aluminum pan a final quick wash using warm water and soap. Dry your pan with a soft cloth.
Step 4 – Maintaining Condition
When using your seasoned aluminum pan, make sure you coat the inside with oil or butter.
Wash with soap and warm water after each use.
